Sewer Board Orders Car Wash to Buy 31 Units
Sewer Commission · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Tyngsborough Sewer Commission votes to add a 13 percent usage deduction, forcing a car wash to buy 31 more sewer units. The commission unanimously approved applying the adjustment to the 426 Middlesex Road car wash's billing after an engineering consultant, identified only as Jim, found a 13 percent gap between metered water use and actual sewer discharge; the business's usage of 14,905 gallons a day against a 4,950-gallon allotment requires the added capacity, to be formalized in a new 10-year covenant. "It would mean they would need to purchase an additional 31 ERUs," Jim told the board.
Commissioners also unanimously approved a $165.07 billing abatement for a Spring Street home miscoded as a two-family property since 2013, and unanimously cleared a failed-septic single-family home at 36 Middlesex Road to tie into town sewer. Sewer Administrator Kathy Cayer separately flagged a missing grease trap at the Dunkin' Donuts at 440 Plaza, "it's just been going on for a long time," and said a deadline letter citing fines is coming.
