Tyngsborough Finance Committee Unanimously Approves FY26 Year-End Budget Transfers

Finance Committee · Meeting of July 13, 2026

Tyngsborough Finance Committee unanimously approves FY26 year-end transfers and hears fire station update. The committee voted 5-0 Monday to approve a package of year-end budget transfers covering department deficits in the town accountant's office, the communications center, public buildings, animal control, and other accounts, drawing surpluses primarily from the health insurance budget. Town Manager Colin Loiselle told the committee the town is on track to close fiscal year 2026 with roughly $6.6 million in free cash and a revenue surplus of at least $300,000.

In an unusual move, $179,000 of a roughly $410,000 snow and ice overrun was covered within the operating budget rather than deferred to free cash; the state's supplemental budget will supply the remaining $230,000. Committee member Phillip Carignan, newly elected Vice Chair at the same meeting, raised concern that the Finance Committee was not notified of the snow and ice overrun until year-end, saying "the more you know, the better." On the fire station, Loiselle reported the Fire Station Building Committee has collected more than 220 survey responses and is exploring whether properties at 347 Middlesex Road or 100 Potash Road could accommodate a combined public safety building, with findings to be presented at a Select Board joint meeting on August 10.
