Finance Panel Backs 100 Potash Hill Road Purchase
Finance Committee · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Tyngsborough Finance Committee backs buying 100 Potash Hill Road for a combined police-fire building, but stalls on the loan to pay for it. The panel unanimously recommended Article 9, authorizing the Select Board to acquire the $4.95 million former Lowell General office building, while declining to take a position on Article 10's $6.4 million borrowing request until an architect's cost estimate arrives before an October 19 joint meeting with the Select Board. Member Phillip Carignan argued for a hard project cap, warning the town shouldn't "invest $6.4 million today and then come back and say it's $42 million." Town Manager Colin countered that a blank check would cost town meeting its leverage over the final design.
The committee also split 4-1 recommending a bylaw update to make existing fines, including leash-law penalties, legally enforceable.
