Select Board schedules Dec. 5 vote on $4.95M site
Town News Brief (Special Edition) _ · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Tyngsborough Select Board votes 4-1 to set a December 5 special election on borrowing for a new public safety building. The board scheduled the vote for Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., asking residents to approve a debt exclusion for the $4.95 million purchase and design of 100 Potash Hill Road, envisioned as a combined police and fire headquarters. The property was listed at $5.1 million; officials said the lower negotiated price reflects the slower, riskier nature of a municipal sale, "even with" at least one competing private offer on the table.
Select Board member Kalavokas cast the lone dissenting vote; members Marino, Eldridge and Gilchrist voted in favor. The $4.95 million figure covers only acquisition and design, not renovation, which officials said is "still being worked out." A special town meeting on the purchase itself is set for October 27 at 7 p.m. at the elementary school.
