Fire Station Building Committee reviews preliminary cost estimates for new station

Fire Station Building Committee · Meeting of March 11, 2026

TYNGSBOROUGH — Fire Station Building Committee reviews first draft cost estimates. The committee, chaired by Adele Coughlin and meeting at Town Hall with nine members present, discussed a preliminary cost estimate from consultant H2M that excludes building demolition and flagged design and soft-cost items still under review. Members including Colin Loiselle and Edgar McLean raised questions about unit pricing assumptions, geothermal payback time (estimated 10 to 12 years), personal locker counts, and gas versus all-electric heating comparisons.

The estimator is expected to deliver a revised hard-cost estimate by March 24, with soft-cost budgeting to be discussed separately.
